Discover your inner artist!

I believe painting classes are for everyone and that we all have an inner artist begging to come out and play. For many of us we spend our days hanging out in the left side of our brain, using our logical thinking, reasoning and analytical skills. The right side of your brain is lonely and bored, it needs some stimulation. I'm here to help!

Most of my students feel pretty vulnerable and a little scared when they sign up for a class. I'm going to share a secret with you. I feel a little scared and vulnerable too and I have figured out a way to push through it. First, treat yourself with grace. Think about the person or thing you cherish most in the world. For me, it's our children. Would I say the discouraging things I say to myself to our kids? Hell no. I would be encouraging and supportive. Second, you are learning a new skill, you aren't supposed to know what you're doing. That's the whole point of being there, but as adults we like to feel competent. Most of us have jobs that we are capable and skilled at. What a risk to come to a class that you aren't experienced in! It takes bravery and guts to put yourself out there.

This is Sam Colt and me putting ourselves out there. Do you know how comfortable we were having a photographer come and take photos of us? Not at all. Zero percent comfortable. We put our big girl pants on, we encouraged and motivated each other, and we did it. We survived and ended up with a pretty decent photo!

I promise you will survive my painting classes (wink) and derive genuine pleasure for them. I am all about the process and creative learning. I encourage you to work at your own pace and discover your individual preferences. *Warning* this promotes relaxation, reduces stress and boosts overall mental health. If you have ever wanted to take a painting class, this would be a great place to start. For the month of May, I will be offering a six-week color exploration class. In this class we will learn the basics, how to care for our materials, mix paints using a palette knife, then start to craft your very own color reference book, similar to the one below. We will explore color theory, value, harmony and saturation.

Come discover your inner artist with me! Classes will be Tuesdays May 2- June 6. I am offering two different times, a morning class from 10-11:30 and an evening class from 6-7:30. You can find out more information or sign up by visiting my website here.

I will be taking a break from my online classes till the fall. However, I offer a monthly Paint & Sip in Montpelier at the Drawing Board Classroom. You can sign up and learn more about that here. I also do private parties, birthdays, baby or bridal showers, I'll even travel to you! You can check out more information here on that!

This Friday is Art Walk from 4-8! If you happen to be in downtown Montpelier stop by 24 Main Street and say Hello, the studio is brimming with new work! I also have a few spots left in my Paint & Sip this Saturday at 7pm, sign up here.

Be good to yourselves~

Katie
